Tuesday, Oct 20, 2009 @08:59am CDT Some area law enforcement officers will soon be trained to act as immigration officers.
It's all part of a new agreement between the state of Missouri and the Department of Homeland Security. The Highway Patrol and 66 other agencies around the state agreed to continue to check people's immigration status when they're arrested. Then one of 18 troopers in the state may start the deportation process if someone is here illegally. Officers have been checking immigration status since 2007, but the new agreement has made changes which will help discourage racial profiling. |
