Reported by: Sonya Kullmann Wednesday, Mar 19, 2008 @08:25am CDT Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt and northwest Arkansas Congressman, John Boozman, are holding a field hearing today on water quality. They will be talking with fifteen regional experts about keeping the water in the Ozarks clean. The Director of Public Works for the City of Branson will be talking about a project to convert sludge from area treatment plants into dried material that can then be used as a fertilizer, like a nutrient-rich dirt. An Arkansas poultry producer will be talking about his plans to convert corn into poultry house heating fuel. He's working with a corn producer to trade poultry litter, which will be used as fertilizer, for the corn he needs to heat his poultry houses. There are 15 speakers for the field hearing, which begins at 9:30 this morning at the Keeter Center at College of the Ozarks. It is open to the public. The Congressmen say this is there chance to hear if water quality issues are being properly addressed in the Ozarks, and to learn if any additional legislation is needed. |
