Thursday, Feb 28, 2008 @02:18pm CST ![]() Road crews in Fargo, North Dakota are using sweet syrup to make slippery streets safer for drivers this winter. Salt is normally used to de-ice roads this time of year. But as it melts the snow and ice, it also causes damage to cars. City officials got together to find a solution. They mixed salt with beet juice and found that it not only worked to melt snow and ice, but it also was effective at colder temperatures than salt alone. City crews said this new method allows them to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to dealing with winter weather.
