Reported by: Sonya Kullmann Thursday, Feb 14, 2008 @12:23pm CST ![]() Researchers are trying to come up with a way to dissolve plastic, and that could solve a couple of problems. The technology is actually being developed for the battleground, but could have uses for civilian life, too. Researchers with Iowa State University and Renewable Energy Group of Ames, Iowa are hoping to figure out how to dissolve large amounts of military plastic waste, and make it part of biofuel. Then, it could be used to fuel power generators. "The ability to take this technology and transfer it to the private sector, not just the military, I think can have enormous long-term ramifications that are extremely positive for our nation and for the world," said Rep. Tom Latham of Iowa. There's no word on when this technology could become available to the general public, but researchers are working on it. |
