Reported by: Sonya Kullmann Wednesday, Feb 6, 2008 @01:33pm CST ![]() The Greater Springfield Homebuilders Association just held its annual show last weekend. And many of the latest products are "green." Contractors in the Ozarks are offering things like geo-thermal heating systems, which use the natural temperature of the earth to heat and cool your home. Other products have new features you might not even think about as being green. For example, new windows and types of insulation are better at keeping out the heat and cold. ![]() Other products are truly unique, says Sam Clifton of Millstone Homes; "We're starting to see more products out there, obviously. We're starting to see countertops made out of newspapers. It's just unbelievable the different things people are coming up with. You know, you don't have to go necessarily 'full green' on a house...there's many shades of green in a house and that's kind of how I look at it." Builders say the key to choosing what's right for your house is to consider the return you'll get on your investment. Anything that will pay for itself in reduced energy costs in the next three to five years is probably worthwhile. |
