Sunday, Jul 19, 2009 @05:11pm CDT A fugitive from the Ozarks is arrested in Vermont. Tammy Hanson was wanted in Baxter County, Arkansas and Lawrence County, Missouri on animal cruelty charges. Back in 2006, authorities found nearly 600 abused dogs on Hanson's property near Mountain Home. The animals had been rescued during Hurricane Katrina, but were neglected by Hanson. It was considered the worst case of animal cruelty in the nation at the time. Hanson and her husband, William, have been on the run since their conviction three years ago. A concerned citizen tipped authorities they were living in Vermont under fake names. Tammy Hanson is due in court in Vermont on Monday. Local authorities have traveled there to testify in the case. |
