Monday, Jan 21, 2008 @06:55pm CST I have an update on a Missouri man who's in China hoping to get his eyesight back.Carl Stevens of Garrison, Missouri reports that he's gaining light perception in his left eye after a series of umbilical stem cell treatments. He says he reacts to a pen light shined at him. Stevens lost his eyesight after suffering Strep B Pneumonia in 2004. Doctors here said they couldn't do anything for him, so he raised the money and left for China on Christmas Day. He's staying longer than the month he'd intended. Beike Biotech requested he stay longer for a sixth treatment. He's the first person in the world to get umbilical stem cells for his condition. We'll keep you posted. |
