  • Ozarks Deputy Charged with Sexual Battery in Georgia

    Wednesday, Jun 17, 2009 @10:33am CDT

(Augusta, GA) -- A sheriff's deputy from Stone County, MIssouri is charged in Georgia with sexual battery, after allegedly trying to force a woman to have sex with him.

Investigative documents from the Richmond County, Georgia sheriff's office says Lucian James Nevatt, 24, of Nixa, was arrested at a bar in downtown Augusta, Georgia early Tuesday morning.

Police reports say Nevatt allegedly followed a woman into the bar bathroom and locked the door, then groped her and tried to force her into sex.  (read the sheriff's department documents here - .pdf)

The woman was able to get away after promising to have sex with the man after letting her companions know she would be away for a few moments.  Police reports say she told bar employees, who threw Nevatt out and called police.

Stone County Sheriff Richard Hill released a statement today, saying Nevatt has worked for his department since May, 2007.  He was in Augusta undergoing annual training with the Army Reserve. Nevatt will be returned to Missouri by the U.S. Army.

"Deputy Nevatt has been placed on unpaid suspension from the Stone County Sheriff's Office pending further investigation. The Peace Officers Standards and Training, Jefferson City, have been notified for their investigative purposes," Hill's statement said.
