  • Murder Suspect's Disturbing MySpace Page
    Reported by: Angie Weidinger

    Monday, Nov 12, 2007 @06:30pm CST

COLLINGSMYSPACE2007-11-12-1194913916.jpgA man accused of raping and murdering a nine year old has a web page that is not only disturbing, but some professionals say it's also very telling.

Many people have MySpace pages.  They use them as a way to network with friends.  But KOLR/KSFX found on Monday, they can also tell much more about those accused of crimes.

David Spears and Chris Collings are charged with one count each of first degree murder, forcible rape and statutory rape in the strangulation death of 9-year-old Rowan Ford.  Spears was Rowan's stepfather and Collings is his friend.

On Monday, KOLR/KSFX found both of the men have MySpace webpages.  Although Spears' page can only be viewed by his MySpace friends.

Collings' is open for the public to see and it shows material that many would find disturbing including a grim reaper figure holding three skulls as his background.  There are several sexually deviant pictures and pornography as well as references to using drugs.

The last time Collings logged on was November 2.  The day Rowan Ford disappeared from her home and was later murdered.  On that day, Collings described his mood on the website using a crude term for being sexually aroused.

KOLR/KSFX talked with a forensic psychologist at Forrest Institute about the MySpace page and he said much of this would be considered rehearsing of a fantasy.  It's something many sexual offenders do before they commit a crime.  While some people will stop at the fantasy stage, others can only fantasize for so long before they act out what they've rehearsed.

Chris Collings and David Spears will be in court on Tuesday.  The Barry County Prosecutor says both of them have admitted to the crimes of raping and strangling the girl to death.
