Concerned citizens put a stop to a theft in progress last night in Springfield.

A car was driving by a bank on the 3000 block of South Maryland at Battlefield Road in Springfield when the passengers noticed someone entering a bank under construction and called police.

Officers say they believe the people in the bank were trying to steal copper wire.

A man and a woman were arrested in the incident.
