A former Muslim terrorist is in the Ozarks this weekend spreading what seems to be an unlikely message.
Walid Shoebat spoke to a crowd of hundreds in Rogersville about his new religion--Christianity.
It seems like any other Sunday church service in the Ozarks, but the congregation at River of Life is learning an unlikely lesson.
Pastor Jim Buckman says, "he's a former terrorist, converted to Christianity."
Taking center stage for this sermon, a man who says after years of Jihadist activity, he found new life in scripture.
Convert Walid Shoebat says, "I began to read the Bible. I began to see in the Bible the things we are talking about."
Shoebat is the son of a Palestinian father and American mother. After growing up in the Middle East, he moved to America to raise money for terrorist organizations.
In the early 90s he studied the Bible in an attempt to convert his wife to Islam...instead, he became a Christian.
He says, "the scripture has information for the time we live in as Americans."
It's a lesson church leaders here hope others can identify with.
Pastor Buckman says, "I think this will deepen devotion to Christianity."
They believe others will find hope for their faith journey as they learn of the speaker and author's
turnaround.
Shoebat says, "sometimes you start to take stuff for granted, but something like this is very dynamic."
And while he acknowledges not everyone agree's with his religious revelation....
"I know my statements sound right wing, or aggressive. However, the only way to fight terrorism is by force."
The former terrorist is finding a captive audience both in church, and with past conspirators.
"It's helping others who see the error of their ways."
This is the start of a series at River of Life.
The Church is taking part in a program called "This Christmas With A Muslim".
The pastor says it's an effort to educate people about the Muslim faith and how it connects with Christianity.
