Thursday, Mar 26, 2009 @05:00am CDT (Chicago, IL) -- Fish are receiving treatment for depression, high blood pressure and seizures thanks to exposure to a Chicago sewage treatment plant. According to a study conducted by Baylor University, fish caught near the North Side Treatment Plant had traces of seven pharmaceutical drugs. Drugs end up in drinking water when people medicate and residue passes through their bodies and into sewers. Researchers know little about potential effects of drug contaminated water on wildlife and people but are increasingly concerned about long-term exposure and growing levels of pollution.
