Friday, Mar 20, 2009 @09:26pm CDT Keeping track of patients and speeding up treatment is just a click away in Springfield.
St. John's Hospital has rolled out a new electronic health record system. It allows doctors to throw out paper charts by putting everything into a computer system. Thus speeding up treatment, minimizing mistakes and even cutting out some costs. St. John's is investing more than $150 million in the system. It says each patient will be accessible in every doctor's office and hospital room in the St. John's network. Missouri Representative Roy Blunt visited St. John's to discuss the technology, which is keeping well-versed doctors on their toes in this digital age. Emergency Physician John Lorette says, "some people are not as tech savvy or typists and even know some who have gone back to take typing lessons." Rep. Blunt says, "the time it takes to process information and the time it takes to retrieve information and the time it takes to verify information is accurate. All of that is substantially enhanced." Today Congressman Blunt also announced a three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health. It'll be going to a team of cancer researchers at Missouri State University. They'll use nearly $190,000 with new chemotherapy technology. |
