Friday, Mar 6, 2009 @04:47am CST Statin drugs may take some of the fun out of feeling better. A new study found that the popular drugs reduced sexual pleasure along with bad cholesterol levels, according to "USA Today." The six-month, federally funded study followed over a thousand adults with high LDL cholesterol but no signs of heart disease. Some were given Zocor or Pravachol and some took a placebo. Those posting the biggest drop in their bad cholesterol level also reported having more trouble achieving orgasm. Men who took Zocor had the most trouble, reporting half as many orgasms. Women had mixed results. Pravachol didn't seem to affect orgasms at all. The research didn't identify why the drugs sometimes had a dampening effect on sexuality. The findings will be presented at the American Psychosomatic Society conference in Chicago today. (Copyright 2009 by Newsroom Solutions) |
