Great Pumpkin Regatta

Spectators on Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont learned Sunday that giant pumpkins float.
Seven brave contestants competed in the first Giant Pumpkin Regatta, paddling out into the lake and around a buoy in giant hollowed out pumpkins and squashes.

Various businesses and groups sponsored each pumpkin raising money for the United Way and a local food pantry.
After the race, the pumpkins were headed to a compost pile.
